About the Artist

Sonja Mishalanie was born in Calgary, Alberta, and currently resides in Frederick, Maryland, with her two dogs, Sadie and Valentino. She began her art journey eight years ago under the tutelage of local renowned artist, Doug Moulden. Seven years ago she cofounded Eastside Artists' Gallery and served as President from 2023 to 2026.

Sonja primarily works in acrylic and watercolors, but has been known to dabble in oils and pastels. She enjoys using bold colors, simple forms, and a bit of whimsy in her work. Her inspiration comes from her many travels, as well as from other artists she meet along the way. Her most recent work draws inspiration from her visit to the Southwest, the celebrated Georgia O'Keeffe, and the beloved Dr. Suess.
